Sunless Tanning Routine

I have been sunless tanning for most of my adult life and let me tell you, sunless tanning lotions have come a long way. This is my current sunless tanning routine along with how I do my regular skin care routine with it.

First, it’s always a great idea to exfoliate and get all the dead cells and dry skin off. This gives a good base for a smooth application. I usually take a shower and use a scrubbing mitt. I focus on my elbows and knees. I also make sure I take off any tanner from my previous application.

After I get out of the shower I apply my daily facial oil and daily moisturizer. I then apply lotion to my hands, wrists and elbows. If I’m tanning my whole body I would also do my knees, ankles and feet. Pretty much anywhere that is dry. The sunless tanner seems to really stick to these areas so applying the lotion it acts as a buffer for a smoother application and less cracked and dark looking.

For application of the sunless tanner you can use a mitt, your hands or a makeup brush. I usually use my hands on tanners that are more of a cream consistency. I like the mitts for an all over body application. I prefer to use a makeup foundation brush. It takes longer to apply but it gives the best application for me.

I start on my chest and then my shoulder, arms and lastly my hands. I use whatever is left on my hands and not apply additional product. I do my face last to give my face lotion time to absorb. I use the makeup brush for application on my face too. Always make sure you get your ears and under chin and neck.

I let my tanner dry before I put on clothes. It usually takes about 10-15 minutes. And that’s about it.

My favorite sunless tanners are:
